about
Leonardo J. Chamizo is a Director of Photography and Camera Operator based in Vienna, who specializes in music videos, art, commercials and corporate events. He is also a filmmaker with experience in documentaries and short films.
His work has been more and more focused on transmitting moments through colors. In recent years, he has discovered his passion for film photography and analog photography. Leonardo’s favorite camera is the Sony FX6 and prime lenses are his best allies, like the 35mm or 50mm transmitting a sense of human vision and a similarity to reality.
Originally from Havana, Cuba, Leonardo has documented numerous music and film events there such as the Jazz Plaza Festival, Havana International Film Festival, International GIBARA Film Festival, Havana World Music and the EYEIFE Festival, collaborating with contemporary Cuban artists.
Trained in Documentary Production for Film and Television by NYU (TISCH School of the ARTS) Special Programs in Havana and the Maurice Kambar Institute of Film and Television, he worked for the Ludwig Foundation in Havana recording all international cultural exchange activities.
Inspired by his own service as fireman, he produced the documentary “Peligrosidad” which was selected by the IMAGO Film Festival in 2018 and by MUESTRA JOVEN, the Young Filmmakers Festival, in 2019. His documentary “Aquí todo se resuelve”, which shows the unique repair culture in Cuba and carries an important sustainability message, was also selected by the IMAGO Film Festival in 2018.
Aside from filming and photography, he enjoys music, sports and traveling.
